Pope St. John Paul II
Pope St. John Paul II
Pope Saint John Paul II, a Polish born priest, who served as Pope from 1978 to 2005. He introduced himself at the beginning of his pontificate with the words: 'Open wide the doors to Christ, and be not afraid of him!' And this message of faith and love stood strong throughout his papacy. He was a prolific writer, and his writings are considered among the greatest treasures of the Church. He was also an artist and avid outdoorsman. The beloved pope's courage and deep faith inspired a generation of faithful. Today, many call him Saint John Paul the Great.
